Finniss River Lodge

Finniss River Lodge is an exciting and intimate experiential luxury lodge built alongside the vast coastal floodplains of the Top End. Owned and operated by third-generation pastoralists, this remarkable property offers a profound sense of isolation within a diversity of stunning landscapes, all while being easily accessible from Darwin.

Catering to twelve exclusive guests across six luxury suites, guests of Finniss River Lodge will discover some of Australia’s most unique ecosystems through a range of personalised activities alongside discovering authentic day-to-day life on a working cattle station. Each activity is led and hosted throughout by specialist-trained, highly-knowledgeable guides who breathe passion for the region.

The lodge will offer generous respite after days of adventuring around the property and into the greater Top End. Amenities include a restaurant and bar serving locally-inspired meals made with flavoursome produce, a lounge area, and an expansive deck with a plunge pool offering spectacular views of breathtaking Top End sunsets.

Combining an authentic cattle-station stay with the third-generation owners and a luxury lodge experience alongside interpretative expeditions into the dynamic, contrasting and spectacular landscapes of the Top End, Finniss River Lodge is an intimate and experiential lodge to remember.

Top End

A vast yet loosely-defined region in the northernmost section of the Northern Territory, the Top End is a distinctly Australian destination where rugged escarpment and lush green floodplains meet. Filled with the remarkable Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks, rich and historical Aboriginal cultures, and an abundance of Australia’s most unique flora and fauna, the Top End invites guests into landscapes interwoven with memorable stories, abundant diversity, and a certain sprinkle of magic.

Finniss River Lodge is located in the north-western corner of the Top End. It is accessible via a 25-minute charter flight, or a 90-minute drive from Darwin.

Finniss River Lodge’s abundance of activities are led by specially-trained guides to ensure a deep and immersive experience to remember. The range of activities on offer are flexible, personalised to your interests and adapt with the feeling of each day, while personalised charter options can be organised in advance. Two shared on-property activities are included each day, as a morning and afternoon experience curated to the day.

Outside of the lodge, a broad variety of ecosystems invite you to wander through floodplains, beachfront, paperbark forests, remnant rainforest, giant termite mounds, and granite escarpment. Explore on foot, in an all-terrain buggy, by 4WD, or in an airboat while cruising upon tree-lined lagoons and natural waterways. While exploring the landscape, be sure to keep an eye out for the incredible range of diverse birdlife, wildlife, and flora that call this unique region home.

Hands-on bush-crafting adventures will invite you to explore the landscape in a new way. Under the guidance of a dedicated survival expert, learn wilderness techniques ranging from tracking wildlife, creating fire from scratch, and sourcing bushtucker that can be transformed into your evening meal by the chefs.

On-property, join the staff in their cattle-station work and learn about the day-to-day activities that make up looking after their herd of Brahman cattle, including exploring the open paddock bull yard, beef preparation, and seasonal cattle drives. End your day with the unique station experience Cows & Canapés and enjoy sundowners in an open-sided buggy, conversation with the station owners and cattle wringers, and the flavours of the Territory served as delicious canapés.

Pre-booked activities that you may be interested in include scenic heli-flights, fishing charters, seeing crocodiles in the wild, and specialised touring into the Greater Top End, including touring through Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks.

With activities ranging from adventurous to educational to indulgent and everything in between, Finniss River Lodge can cater to travellers of all ages and ensure a memorable stay.

Finniss River offers six exclusive rooms with flexible configurations suitable for all kinds of travellers. Each room offers generous king split beds with an accompanying ensuite, complete with a deep bathtub. Interconnecting room options provide flexibility for families and whole-site bookings.

Each room is temperature-controlled and comes with a private veranda to overlook the sprawling floodplains.

Boasting a location within easy reach of some of the country’s best produce, meals at Finniss River Station showcase fresh, regional fare with uniquely Top End flavours. Guests can anticipate the compelling flavours of Finniss River Station’s very own dry-aged beef, local prawns, mud crab, barramundi, venison and crocodile, accompanied with fresh seasonal produce of the region including mango, lime, and native plant foods sourced from local farms.

Finniss River Lodge enjoys a warm climate year-round, with temporary closures each year from mid-January to the end of February. The ‘Dry’ Season extends from April to November, while the ‘Green’ (or ‘Wet’) Season runs from December to March.
