Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest reef system comprising nearly 3,000 individual reefs and 900 islands. it is also the planet’s biggest single living structure made by billions of tiny organisms known as coral polyps. It stretches for over 2,600km, covering approximately 350,000 square kilometres.

A large part of the reef is protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, which helps to limit the impact of human use.

The House is located on Lizard Island, accessible via scheduled or charter flight from Cairns. Approximately two light aircraft flights occur each day, taking approximately 60 minutes.

Nestled upon the doorstep of the pristine Great Barrier Reef, The House invites you to experience the region with personalised and intimate activities. Ranging from close-up encounters with the Great Barrier Reef to sunset cruising on the 56-ft Riviera motor yacht ‘Pisces’, your time will be personalised to your tastes by your expert host to create an unforgettable stay.

Activities may include:

• Boating: including paddle boards, glass bottomed sea kayaks, motorised dinghies, and personal access to ‘Mojo’ – a Twin Outboard SeaRanger
• Fishing: seek out big-game fish including the famous Black Marlin (between September – November)
• Snorkelling: float over the vibrant landscapes upon the edge of the continental shelf, discovering colourful reef species and marine life, or venture further afield to explore the Ribbon Reefs’ giant clams, Potato Cod, and more
• Wellness: reconnect with nature and your serenity with bespoke spa treatments and relaxation practices embedded organically into your stay, including a dedicated yoga and meditation guide
• Nature and Hiking: explore the National Park that makes up Lizard Island, either with a guide or unguided to explore native flora, fauna, sacred Indigenous sites, and more.

The House comes equipped with three king suites, each with an ensuite, indoor-outdoor shower, outdoor bath, and private balcony to enjoy and soak up the views. Bathrooms are equipped with premium bath products, bath robes and slippers. Interiors reflect the rest of the House, with custom-crafted furniture, stone and timber surfaces, and other natural touches.

The Cottage is a self-contained, single level building within close walking distance to The House. Part of the same complex but completely distinct, the Cottage offers additional seclusion and privacy from the main residence, making it perfect for grandparents, an older child, an au pair, or any other personal guests of the House.

• Kitchenette

Each stay at The House comes fully catered by a private chef with accompanying wine selections by a sommelier, as well as other premium beverages. Local produce features on the menu, celebrating the tropical bounty Lizard Island is found within.

Your private chef is dedicated to showcasing the diverse and exceptional produce of Tropical North Queensland, with an emphasis on the fresh seafood found in the waters surrounding Lizard Island. You’ll enjoy a menu showcasing quintessentially Australian cuisine that caters to your own unique tastes and special requests.

The House sommelier curates the Estate’s vast wine collection to suit your tastes, hand-selecting wines for every single meal and occasion experienced on the island. While always stocked with a well-rounded and ever-changing selection of Champagne, wine and spirits, the sommelier curates an exceptional collection of award-winning wines and boutique varieties, while also coordinating specific wines especially for guests’ tastes.

The House at Lizard is available all year around. Preferred dates of travel are between May – October each year, which is the Dry Season of Tropical North Queensland.
