BLOG | This is a very tough choice as there are so many great luxury resorts Australia has to offer today. After sending to travellers to Australia’s finest lodges for the last 13 years I am going to list my top 5, based on a criteria of consistently outstanding customer feedback and what I believe displays Australia at its finest.

1. El Questro Homestead – The Kimberley

El Questro Homestead

El Questro Homestead is the first really truly world class product in Australia and was the brainchild of tourism visionary Will Burrell. For those that know me well they will be surprised by this choice however all one can say is that it has more than stood the test of time and guests absolutely love it! Cantilevered over the Chamberlain Gorge in the magnificent Kimberleys this place has the WOW factor.

2. Angorichina Station – Flinders Ranges

At Angorichina Station in Flinders Ranges it’s all about the hosts, fourth generation owners Di and Ian Fargher accept only one booking at a time on their stunning 120,000 acre property in the heart of the Flinders Ranges. So whether you are a couple or family of 8 you have the whole private property and the hosts to yourself. Di and Ian literally bend over backwards to ensure you have a great time. Situated in the timeless and ancient Flinders Ranges this is quintessential Australia at its finest.

3. Southern Ocean Lodge – Kangaroo Island

Details, details, details! I have had many very discerning guests stay at Southern Ocean Lodge and always they are amazed by the detail and the thought that went into the property. A relative newcomer, only being opened in March 2008 this property quickly established itself as the new benchmark of luxury travel in Australia. Owners James and Hayley Baillie have combined exquisite design with the natural environment to create a masterpiece. A laid back atmosphere in a highly sophisticated setting with understated opulence combine to create a truly world class experience. This is a MUST do for any Australian or International visitor. This is a property that always meets and exceeds expectations and is an exemplary example of Australian luxury lodges.

4. Burrawang West Station – Outback New South Wales

The client feedback does not lie, no complaints in over 10 years only accolades. Burrawang West Station in New South Wales is a true hidden secret of Australia that people always walk away from saying – that was amazing! Set on the banks of picturesque Lachlan River this showpiece property delivers on all fronts. Outstanding hospitality, quintessentially Australian, great food, great activities and superb accommodation. As one prominent UK journalist wrote this was his “favourite place on the planet”. A must do for anyone travelling in a group of 8-20 people.

5. Lizard Island – Great Barrier Reef

In property it’s all about the location the same can be said for Lizard Island Resort. Located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef this property is surrounded by powdery white beaches and is literally on the doorstep of the world’s greatest natural aquarium. For anyone wanting to experience this underwater wonderland, there is no other island more luxurious or in such close proximity. Recently acquired by Delaware North they are reinvesting in the infrastructure to return it to a true showpiece of Australia.
