Australian Hand-Crafted Journeys

Embarking on the ultimate seafood safari

BLOG | Swapping their offices for something a little more adventurous, a few of our team members recently flew over to the Eyre Peninsula to get a taste of what the buzz is all about.

Currently based in the UK, our Oxford-based Senior Travel Designer Rachel Barrett-Wood recently made the journey to Australia to catch up with the rest of the team and to check out (for work purposes of course..) a few of our incredible Australian destinations.

One such opportunity was a trip over to the Eyre Peninsula to uncover just what is so great about the region. Joining her on this South Australian adventure were a few of our other Aussie-based team members, Angelica Aidone, Kirstie Zeller and Kylie Hoffman.

Hosting our team for their Eyre Peninsula (named the EP for short) experience was born and bred local and the owner of Australian Coastal Safari’s, David ‘Lunch’ Doudle. Lunch is a great friend to The Tailor and someone we trust implicitly to take care of our guests. Known for his incredible local knowledge and hilarious Australian witticisms, Lunch is the perfect host for any EP journey.

Boasting an itinerary packed with adventure, the team spent their time enjoying the EP to the fullest. Showcasing the full potential of this spectacular and often underrated region, Lunch took the team 4-wheel-driving on ivory sand dunes, sampling fresh world-class oysters directly from the ocean, strolling through some of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes and enjoying the wonderfully fresh seafood readily available around the region. As experienced travellers themselves, our Travel Designers have enjoyed spectacularly iconic destinations around Australia and the world, however, collectively have said how the Eyre Peninsula still managed to blow them away.

When asked what their trip highlights were, our Travel Designers had the below to say;

“Our familiarisation trip with ACS was awesome! Lunch is great, a real character. The food was exceptional. David’s wife, Mandy’s cooking was lovely, and she is a delightful host. The region itself is just absolutely breathtaking” ~ Angelica Aidone, Senior Travel Designer

“What got me was how peaceful it all was – the lack of people and the incredible scenery and wildlife. I saw more native animals than in other parts of Australia also well known for wildlife. We saw roughly 40 koalas in under an hour on our visit to Mikkira Station, amazing!” ~ Rachel Barrett-Wood, Senior Travel Designer
