Melbourne, known as the cultural centre of Australia, is a city of contrasts. From the high-end brands of the ‘Paris’ end of Collins Street, to the small underground vintage shops, from internationally renowned sporting events, to the thriving alternate art scene, and from the very best in fine dining, to the iconic hole-in-the-wall alley cafes, Melbourne really does have something for everyone. The epitome of the city’s more luxurious side, is the famous Crown Towers, where The Tailor team were lucky enough to be treated to a ritzy Melbourne weekend away.
From the very moment we were warmly welcomed into the vast foyer with its impressive chandelier, stunning marble floors and sincerely helpful staff, we knew we were in for a special weekend. If the immense foyer itself wasn’t enough to impress us (although it absolutely was) the beautiful Deluxe King Rooms certainly were. Just as Crown Towers is dominant in the luxury scene in Melbourne, so too is the hotel foremost in outstanding city views. With sweeping views of the city skyline, the Yarra River or Port Phillip Bay, these rooms offer a warm and comforting, yet equally spectacular and luxurious experience of Melbourne – and quite frankly, a special treat for us at The Tailor.
For our first evening we were treated to a night out with our good friends at Localing. The amazing guides at Localing applied their exceptional local knowledge to show us some of the lesser-known hidden gems of the city. Down tiny alleys, through and behind restaurants, and up darkened stairwells, we were taken to some of the trendiest small bars in the city. Each location had a colourful history and a character with a story to tell. After a few city stops and then out to effortlessly cool Fitzroy, we reluctantly ended our night with our lovely Localing friends. The experience that the team offer is truly incredible, and it is safe to say you would never stumble upon these hidden hole-in-the-wall treasures without Localing to uncover them for you.
To begin our Saturday morning, following a well-earned rest and a fantastic breakfast in the Crystal Club Lounge, we took a short walk down the Yarra Promenade, only to be met by a glimmering red helicopter flying overhead, baring the iconic Crown symbol. In groups of 5 our exceptional Microflite pilot took us up to the skies of Melbourne along the Yarra and through the buildings, before taking us down the coast to Bright, and back around to the city. This incredible 20-minute scenic city flight provided a perspective of Melbourne like no other, and gave us not only a greater understanding of the city, but also a truly memorable and exciting start to our day.
Once The Tailor team had their feet safely back on land and the mornings excitement had somewhat calmed down, we continued back to Crown Towers, to tour the great variety of room, suites, and villas offered by the extensive hotel. From the lead-in-room all the way up to the very top villa, the accommodation on offer seeped elegance, and radiated class. This was most evident, in our visit to the Chairman’s Villa. With 360’s views of the city, spacious and elegantly adorned rooms, and lavish furnishings, it wasn’t just the newest members of The Tailor who’s jaws hit the ground when we walked through the doors. The great variety in accommodation options offered by Crown, is truly overwhelming.
After a visit to Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade through the labyrinth of shops in the Crown precinct, we stopped for yet another special treat; a visit to the exclusive Crown Spa. Here we donned the classic white robes and put our feet up for a relaxing massage followed by a glass of champagne. With private pampering suites, attentive masseuses, and lavish décor this is an experience not to be missed while staying at Crown Towers. Feel revitalised, renewed, and quite frankly, like you are worth a million dollars. I know The Tailor team certainly left the Crown Spa feeling that little bit shinier.
After an exhausting day of Spa Treatments and surprise helicopters, The Tailor team continued on their journey through the finer-things in life, with champagne and Canapés in the Crown Towers Presidential Villa. Dressed in our very best, and surrounded by the stunning expanse of the Villa, we settled in for pre-dinner drinks in a setting truly like no other. With a spectacular view from every perspective, and a beautiful Villa so large we certainly would have lost our way if left to our own devises, we pinched ourselves to make sure we really were in a location this breathtaking.
Pre-dinner drinks this impressive were going to be hard to top, but a dinner at the award-winning Rossetta, was equal to the task. Seated under the imposing Warhol inspired mural of The Last Supper, and with a parade of Neil Perry’s favourite mouth-watering Italian dishes, Rosetta did not fail to deliver on an exceptional dining experience. Extraordinary dish followed by extraordinary dish, and delicious wine followed by delicious wine, left The Tailor team perfectly content in this world of fine dining and highbrow living. To finish the jam-packed day of luxury, we hit the dance floor of the Crown Tower’s own Club 23 for some dancing.
To end a weekend of sophistication and glamour, we enjoyed our final morning’s breakfast in the Crystal Club Lounge. This private dining area provides an exclusive haven to retreat to for breakfast each morning, or even afternoon tea offered daily. The perfect end to what The Tailor will remember as one of most exciting and extravagant weekends away.
