The Whitsunday Islands / Great Barrier Reef
Elysian is located on the northern-most point of Long Island in the Whitsundays – one of Australia’s natural wonders amidst a treasure chest of 74 emerald islands set in a sapphire sea.
The island group lies midway along Australia’s Queensland coast, with the famous Great Barrier Reef reached after a short boat or seaplane ride. The Whitsunday islands and waters are rich with wildlife, while the beaches and coves are places of magic.
The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest reef system comprised of nearly 3,000 individual reefs and 900 islands – it is also the planet’s biggest single structure made by billions of tiny organisms known as coral polyps. It stretches for over 2,600 kilometres (1,600 miles), covering approximately 350,000 square kilometres.
A large part of the reef is protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, which helps to limit the impact of human use.
