Hunter Valley

Producing some of the finest wines in Australia

The Hunter Valley is one of Australia’s premier wine-growing regions

Purveyors of gourmet cuisine, fine wine, wildlife and golfing visit the Hunter Valley region to enjoy the abundant experiences on offer.

First established more than 150 years ago, the Hunter Valley is now home to over 80 wineries, with the labels ranging from small and boutique, to internationally known, loved and recognised. Renowned for its production of full-bodied white wines, medium reds and excellent tawny’s.

Located just 2 hours from Sydney, this region is the perfect country escape for any traveller looking to discover history, adventure and incredible cuisine outside of the cityscape.

  • Escape Sydney for the day with one of the region’s best tour operators and enjoy your time sampling the incredible range of wines on offer in the Hunter Valley.
  • Discover the Barrington Tops National Park by getting back into nature, be sure to keep a lookout for the region’s collection of native animals.

The Hunter Valley enjoys a climate that is very similar to Sydney’s, being in such close proximity.

In summer (December to February) the days are frequently warm and sunny and the average daily temperature sits between 21 – 27°C (69.8 – 80.6°F). In winter (June to August) this changes slightly, becoming cooler and the temperature drops to an average of 4 – 17°C (39.2 – 62.6°F).

In autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November), the temperature once again evens out and becomes very pleasant. The average temperatures during these seasons averages between 21 – 25°C (69.8 – 78.8°F).

What do our experts say about Hunter Valley?

"I love the Hunter Valley because in a couple of hours from Sydney you enter a different world. Aside from being a foodies dream with wonderful venues offering fine food, wine and cheese tastings, it is the serene beauty and tranquillity of the area that gives the feeling of quiet country charm."
