Not-for-Profit Organisations We Support

At The Tailor, we believe that travel should not only enrich the lives of our clients, but also contribute positively to the communities and environments they visit. As travellers, we have a responsibility to support local economies, preserve cultural heritage, and protect natural environments. By engaging with and supporting local communities, our clients can foster mutual understanding, promote sustainable practices, and ensure that the destinations they visit thrive economically and culturally for generations to come. Our commitment to impactful travel is at the heart of a new initiative, which will allow our clients to contribute directly to the preservation of Australia’s natural and cultural treasures through their travels.

We have chosen three Australian not-for-profit organisations that have been carefully selected for their alignment with the core values and experiences offered through The Tailor’s itineraries. Each plays a crucial role in preserving Australia’s unique biodiversity and cultural heritage.

At The Tailor, we pride ourselves on being pioneers in this space, as the first Australian Destination Management Company to offer such a philanthropic initiative. This program not only enriches our clients’ travel experiences by allowing them to contribute meaningfully to causes they care about or have left a lasting impression, but also reinforces our commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism practices.

We invite our clients to join us in making a positive impact on these vital aspects of Australia’s natural and cultural heritage. Through this program, they have the opportunity to donate either a predetermined dollar amount or a percentage of their total trip cost to one of the following important Australian not-for-profit organisations.

  • Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef

    Heron Island Snorkelling

The Great Barrier Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the world’s largest coral reef system, stretching over 1,400 miles (2,300 kilometers) along the Queensland coast. It is home to an extraordinary diversity of marine life, including more than 1,500 species of fish, 411 types of hard coral, and countless other organisms. As one of the most complex ecosystems on Earth, the Reef faces significant challenges from climate change, pollution, and other human impacts.

Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef is a pioneering organisation dedicated to the conservation and sustainable management of this natural wonder. Founded on the belief that collective action can make a difference, Citizens engages individuals, businesses, and communities worldwide to become active stewards of the Reef. Through funding and support for reef resilience projects, scientific research, and community education initiatives, Citizens empowers people to take tangible actions that contribute to the long-term health and resilience of the Great Barrier Reef.

  • Australian Wildlife Conservancy

Australia is renowned for its unique biodiversity, with a staggering array of endemic species found nowhere else on Earth. However, Australia also faces some of the highest rates of mammal extinction in the world, largely due to habitat loss, feral animals, and introduced predators. The Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) plays a critical role in reversing these trends by acquiring and managing large-scale sanctuaries across the country.

As the largest private owner of land for conservation in Australia, AWC manages more than 16 million acres (6.5 million hectares) of land, implementing innovative land management practices to restore and protect native habitats. AWC’s rigorous scientific approach underpins its conservation efforts, focusing on reintroducing threatened species, controlling invasive predators, and conducting groundbreaking research. By supporting AWC, individuals contribute directly to the preservation of Australia’s unique wildlife and ecosystems, ensuring a future where native species thrive in their natural habitats.

Funds from The Tailor will specifically support the Kimberley Conservation Hub Project which focuses on environmental conservation and the preservation of cultural heritage within the Kimberley region of Western Australia. This is achieved through protecting important Indigenous Cultural sites from fire with our Indigenous partners, while also collaborating more broadly with local community members on AWC land management and scientific-based work.

  • Koorie Heritage Trust

     Koorie Heritage Trust

Australia’s Aboriginal peoples, with a history spanning more than 60,000 years, possess one of the oldest living cultures in the world. Indigenous Australians have deep connections to their lands, encompassing diverse languages, traditions, and spiritual beliefs. Providing opportunities to connect with the rich living heritage of Australia’s First People, Koorie Heritage Trust aims to bridge the cultural gap through a celebration of Aboriginal peoples’ resilience, knowledge systems, and custodianship of the land.

The Koorie Heritage Trust, established in 1985, is Victoria’s oldest and largest Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Dedicated to preserving, protecting, and promoting Koorie Culture, the Trust serves as a vital resource for both the Aboriginal Community and the wider public. Through exhibitions, educational programs, and community initiatives, the Trust shares the rich heritage of Victoria’s Koorie peoples, fostering understanding and respect for their Cultural Heritage and ongoing contributions to Australian society. It also acts as an important vehicle connecting visitors with Aboriginal Culture in urban environments, thus demonstrating the ongoing cultural ties between the ancient and modern.

By supporting the Koorie Heritage Trust, individuals contribute to initiatives that promote cultural resilience, advocate for Aboriginal rights, and empower Koorie communities to preserve and transmit their cultural knowledge to future generations. The Trust’s work ensures that Aboriginal voices and stories are honoured, enriching Australia’s cultural tapestry and promoting reconciliation across the nation.

Clients of The Tailor can visit Koorie Heritage Foundation alongside our trusted travel partners Localing Australia. Localing have a longstanding relationship with the Foundation, and use Aboriginal Guides from the organisation for a number of their Cultural tours.
