Family itinerary around Launceston / Tamar Valley
Day 1
After breakfast, your guide will meet you at your accommodation to commence your day of touring. Visit Hollybank Treetops Adventure to glide across the treetops in a unique canopy tour. This fantastic adventure lasts three hours and is quite unlike any other Australian nature experience: with highly trained guides, you glide along wires attached by harnesses, traversing cable spans of up to 371 metres between tree platforms called “cloud stations”. This award-winning adventure showcases the forest and its ecology in a new light and enables you to learn about the vibrant Tasmanian forests and wildlife.
Take a short break for lunch at a local bakery or picnic.
In the afternoon travel to the Tasmanian wilderness to experience a gourmet campfire dinner under the stars with a glass of Tasmanian pinot whilst waiting for a captivating encounter with some of the region’s unique and endearing wildlife species. Hopefully, you’ll encounter include the Eastern Quoll, possums, wombats, wallabies, bettong, bandicoot and Tasmanian Devils amongst others.
Day 2
Depart Launceston and travel to Chudleigh to visit the Honey Farm and sample from over 50 flavours of Tasmanian honey. Then take a short drive to Trowunna Wildlife Park for a private tour of the facility which involves patting a koala, cuddling a wombat, hand-feeding and interacting with wallabies and kangaroos, and watching the Tasmanian Devils being fed.
From Trowunna, travel to the Tamar Valley for your lunch destination, the Strathlynn Restaurant, at the Ninth Island Vineyard, which offers one of the finest dining experiences on the island. Chef Daniel Alp presents a menu based on seasonal produce. The excellent cuisine and wine is matched by a sensational view of the Tamar River.
After lunch, venture further up the Tamar River to Beauty Point to visit Platypus House, where you are able to watch and learn the secrets of the astonishing egg-laying mammals, along with their spiny relatives, the echidna.
